Want an easy morning routine with baby that takes the guesswork out? This routine will help you feel like you've got much more of a grip on things.

When you’re running on little sleep, it’s totally normal to think, “What am I supposed to be doing right now?” or “This baby runs my whole life.”
I’ve been there- and as a mom of two, I’ve found a simple rhythm that not only brings calm (and control) to your mornings but also helps strengthen that sweet bond between you and your baby.
This post is all about teaching you an easy morning routine with baby that you can use and adapt for a smooth start to your day together.
What to Include in Your Morning Routine
The first several months of your baby’s life are kindof all over the place in terms of a schedule but luckily by the time your baby gets close to their first birthday, you can safely expect to have more control over how the start of your day looks. In fact, this started around when my little man reached about 8 months.
You may not get to start off your morning with mindlessly scrolling your socials, making a perfectly curated breakfast sandwich and leisurely sipping your morning coffee, but you do have a sweet little one who loves you to pieces to join you for your morning routine now! By your side and demanding attention and care and multiple diaper changes of course.
A solid morning routine with a baby should cover not just your little one’s needs, but also leave room for you, your home, and the tasks that keep everything running.
Routine keeps moms sane- and babies love it too. They start to rely on familiar patterns just like we do. A flexible morning schedule can make all the difference in feeling a little more in control. Here’s what I do each day to start off calm(ish) and connected.

6:30 Wake Up
Start the day by turning off the sound machine (we love this one- it's been a game changer for better sleep), opening the curtains, and soaking in those sweet morning snuggles. Holding your baby by the window and chatting about what you see outside is such a simple, lovely way to gently wake them up- just hearing your voice gets their little mind going.
6:40am Feed Baby & Diaper Change
Next, it’s feeding time- whether that’s nursing or a bottle, keeping things calm and cozy during this part of the morning really helps set the tone for the rest of the day. You might choose to keep your baby in their sleep sack or jammies a little longer, especially if they tend to get messy during breakfast (which they usually do!). There’s no need to rush into a full outfit change unless it works better for your routine.
A quick diaper change and a few quiet minutes of cuddles can go a long way in helping both of you ease into the day.
7:00am Playtime
We get down on the floor, pull out a few toys, and ease into some playtime. Sometimes it’s full-on engaging with books, peekaboo, or spotting puppies and strollers out the window- other times, it’s a mix of independent play while I take a few minutes to get myself together for the day. Whether that’s throwing on some moisturizer, brushing my hair, or just changing into real clothes, it helps me feel a little more human while still staying close and connected.
7:30am Start Breakfast
Next, head to the kitchen to start making breakfast. It helps to have a safe spot to set your baby down- an activity center, playpen, or even a high chair with a few toys can be a lifesaver during this time.
Depending on their age and stage, your little one might be having a puree, soft finger foods like scrambled eggs or toast strips, or small pieces of fruit. Prepping a few things ahead of time like baby-friendly muffins makes mornings easier, and having a go-to breakfast routine can keep things calm for both of you.
Batching foods like quiche or breakfast burritos for yourself can also be really helpful if you and your baby aren't quite ready to have the same foods yet.
7:45am Breakfast Time
Next, it’s time to sit down and eat together. One of the best tips? Eat when your baby eats- and when possible, serve some version of the same meal for both of you. It keeps things simple and cuts way down on cleanup. For younger babies, that might mean offering a puree or mashed version of what you’re having. As they get older, they can start sharing more of your meals in soft, safe-to-eat portions. While we eat, I sip some water (and iced coffee, of course), and baby gets a few sips from a straw or sippy cup once they’re done eating.
8:15am Clean-up & Playtime
After breakfast, it’s a great time to let your baby hang out in a safe spot like an activity center or playpen for 10–15 minutes while you tidy up the kitchen, unload the dishwasher and tackle the breakfast aftermath- like scraping scrambled eggs off the high chair for the hundredth time. Playing some light music in the background can make the space feel more fun and help set a calm tone for the rest of the morning.
If cleanup takes longer than expected (as it usually does), you can always bring your baby down to a soft spot nearby with a few toys so they can play while you finish up. "I used this activity center with both of my kids, and it was a lifesaver for keeping them busy. The built-in toys can’t be tossed across the room, which is a game-changer when you’re elbow-deep in dishes."
Once cleanup is done, switch things up by moving to another room or area for floor play- a simple change of scenery helps keep your baby engaged and gives the morning a nice rhythm. You can also step outside and get some sunshine together for a few minutes.
8:45am Change Clothes & Diaper
Once playtime winds down, it’s a good moment to do a quick diaper change and get your baby dressed for the day- if you haven’t already. Picking a comfy, weather-appropriate outfit to get ready for whatever’s on the agenda for the day, whether it’s a walk, errands, or just another round of living room adventures. It’s also a nice way to signal that the morning routine is moving into its next phase, which babies start to pick up on with time.
9:00 Wind Down Time
As the morning winds down, it's helpful to ease into some calm, low-stimulation activities to gently prepare your baby for their first nap. Reading a book, looking out the window, or walking around and talking about what you see can all help signal that it's time to settle down. A simple nap routine- whether that includes nursing, a bottle, brushing teeth, or just a few quiet snuggles- helps your baby recognize that rest time is coming and makes the transition smoother for both of you.
9:30-11:00am Nap
During the first nap of the day, it’s a great opportunity to take a breath and do something that’s harder to manage when your baby’s awake. Whether that’s tackling a few chores, prepping dinner, squeezing in a quick workout, or finally grabbing a shower, use this time in a way that serves you. It’s okay if some days are more productive and others are just about resting and resetting- both are valid and necessary. If you can, aim to wrap things up about ten minutes before you expect your baby to wake, so you're not caught off guard. Give yourself grace. You're doing a lot.
11:00am Wake Up, Feed, Diaper Change
Once baby is awake, it's time to feed again, change their diaper and start to get ready to get out of the house if possible. Check the weather and gather the things you need to go for a walk together.
11:30am- 12:00pm Walk
When the weather is nice, getting outside for a walk can do wonders for both you and your baby. Whether in a stroller or a baby carrier, it gives your little one a chance to take in the sights and sounds of the world around them- which is great for their sensory development. For moms, it’s a simple way to squeeze in some movement, boost your mood, and break up the day with a change of scenery. Adding in music or a good podcast can make it feel like a mini reset.
12:00 Lunch Time
Once you're back from the walk, it's a great time to get your baby settled in the high chair with a little snack- something simple like a few puffs or Cheerios can keep them busy while you prepare lunch. By this point, everyone’s ready to eat, so keep it easy and nourishing for both of you. Offering some water alongside the meal is a good habit to build early on.
And that wraps up this simple morning routine! Having a flow to follow with your little one can make such a difference- it takes the guesswork out of what comes next and helps you feel more in control, even on the busiest days. Building in little pockets of time to tidy up, reset, or take care of yourself helps the whole day run more smoothly. And keeping things fresh- whether by switching up activities or moving to different spots around your home- helps keep both you and your baby engaged.
