Well for starters, I have a secret. A secret between you and me and a small number of people close to my hubby and I…. I’m pregnant!
The first few weeks after you learn that you’re expecting are so exciting! But that two week wait leading up to when you find out SUCKS. Those two weeks feel like they last a month. You look for every little thing that might be out of the ordinary and reach for some sign that will confirm your hopes.

The most normal symptom is that you miss your period but we want some kind of hint before that! And try as you might, you can’t just pee on the test sticks every day after you’ve done the deed or you’ll waste a lot of time, money…. and test sticks.
Here I’ll share my experience and also several other common symptoms that you may start to notice days before that (hopefully) big fat positive.

First Signs
The first odd thing for me was a little twingy twinge on one side of my uterus. Specifically my right side the last time I was pregnant and this time it was on the left. It was pretty low down by my pelvic bone and inward but deep down- it’s tough to explain. The closest way I would describe it was that it was almost as though the area felt inflamed and something in there was poking it the tender area and causing it to ache. That’s the best I’ve got.
Okay….. Everyone I talk to thinks this is the weirdest thing and now it’s happened twice but both times I didn’t realize it was a unique symptom.
Ready?
A SUPERHUMAN sense of smell.

And because both times this happened are funny to me I’ll tell you what went down.
The first time was around Thanksgiving a few years ago. I stayed up late one night chopping veggies and prepping dishes for our little two-person Thanksgiving meal at the house because the next day I had work and wouldn’t be able to get to it. That next morning I packed up my food for the day, grabbed a homemade juice (I was on a juice kick at the time) and headed into work. When I got to my office I opened up my mason jar of juice and as soon as I removed the metal lid I realized I smelled onions! I had no clue where it was coming from though because my lunch had no onions in it and I had already put it away in the fridge at work. I shrugged and figured someone must have brought something fragrant in and I went down the hall to use the bathroom. When I came back to my office, as soon as I stepped through the door…. ONIONS. It was all I could smell and at that point it was so strong I couldn’t ignore it. That was when I finally made the connection that some of the scent from the veggies I had chopped for stuffing (onions), despite being under two tight layers of plastic wrap back home in my fridge, had lingered on the lid of the mason jar with my juice in it!
I got my positive test about a week later!

The second time was a few days after we had moved into our new home. Every time I stepped into our bedroom I smelled stinky feet. We were constantly moving around and unpacking so at first I just assumed my husband had shed his socks somewhere nearby and thought “he really must have worked up a sweat. Gross!” and moved on. I eventually joked with him that he needed a shower because I noticed it every single time I went through that door and asked where he was leaving his stinky socks and he said he hadn’t left any in the room. He also said he couldn’t smell it whatsoever. I checked with him about where in the house he had used our Bissell carpet cleaner and he initially said he had done all of the carpet but at that moment he realized he had not been able to do our room yet because there were too many boxes in it at the time!
Turns out the old owner was a nasty POS. And I was definitely pregnant yet again.

Aside from these odd little signs, I was emotional over the weirdest, most mundane things. I chalked it up to the stress of moving but that just didn’t seem to explain why I would get that little lip quiver/nose scrunch thing you do when you’re about to well up- you know you do it too! And for me it happened because of tiny little random things like reading the label on McCoy’s vitamin D drops and being so happy that he was getting what he needed for his little bones to grow healthy and strong. Uhhh…. we all cry over nutrition labels, right??
Those things may not be the first items to come up in a Google search for “earliest signs of pregnancy” but they definitely happened to me! There are several more signs or symptoms you might experience that are a lot more common and maybe not so weird.

Pro Tip
Save yourself some moolah and buy these cheap pregnancy test strips instead of using the crazy expensive digital tests if you haven’t seen your positive test yet. Most women go through this cycle of waiting and testing multiple times so go with the strips and once you think you might be seeing that special line show up THEN use a digital test to get your answer! Plus, this pack also comes with ovulation test strips which are really helpful to let you know when you should be doin the baby dance if you know what I mean!
